Middle East accounts for 43% of US arms transfers, report finds

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said the Middle East has positioned second all around the world as far as the size of arms imports; with 32% of worldwide arms imports going to the district.

As per the Institute’s yearly yearbook for 2022, four Arab nations came in the best ten arms bringing in nations on the planet during the period from 2017-to 2021. They were named Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“Center Eastern states imported 2.8 percent a larger number of arms in 2017–21 than they did in 2012–16. This followed a 86 percent expansion in arms imports to the locale between 2007–11 and 2012–16,” the report said.

“The Middle East represented 43% of US arms moves. Particularly significant for the development of US arms trades was an expansion in conveyances of significant arms to Saudi Arabia, by 106%.”

“Arms imports by Saudi Arabia — the world’s second-biggest arms merchant — expanded by 27% between 2012–16 and 2017–21. Qatar’s arms imports developed by 227%, driving it from the 22nd biggest arms merchant to the sixth biggest. Conversely, arms imports by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) shrank by 41% between 2012–16 and 2017–21, taking it from the third-biggest to the 10th biggest arms shipper worldwide. Each of the three of these states and Kuwait has put in enormous requests for significant arms made arrangements for conveyance before very long.”

In the interim, Israeli arms imports expanded by 19% between 2012–16 and 2017–21.
