“People Needed Humanity and Vunerability from Trump”
The words of the President hit a sour note with me and with those who have fallen ill or lost a loved one. Seeing him take a victory lap around the Walter Reed Medical Center (in a hermetically sealed vehicle secured by members of the Secret Service whose lives he put at risk), conducting unmasked photo shoots, and conducting a White House campaign event caused us to scream in terror. We can’t help but ask, doesn’t the president really understand the severity of this illness?
Faced with this devastating virus, we needed a sign of its humanity and shared vulnerability. Instead, what President Trump brought us was political theatre and an angry individual machismo spectacle that is woefully out of touch with the American people’s needs in 2020.
