The Consquential Concern for US and Russia Over Nuclear Arms Control is Undeniable

Here me out for the realization I had for my reading today. Here are the two nations, Russia and the US, have 91 percent of the world’s 13,410 nuclear warheads between them, and therefore have the potential to kill the earth. You might think, therefore, that as the clock runs down on the last remaining nuclear weapons control deal between them, the world would pay more than a smidgeon of attention. Is there another nuclear arms race we want to see? It is baffling to lack focus and urgency.

We should not lose sight of the ultimate objective: to remove all nuclear weapons. The UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which comes into force in January, has been ratified by over 120 nations. The least we can conclude from nuclear-armed states is that they should be going in that direction, which they definitely are not doing right now.
