UN cautions of losing two-state arrangement opportunity

Farhan Haq, the agent representative for United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, cautioned on Friday of the chance of losing the chance of the two-state arrangement, Arab48.com announced.

This came following comments made by US President Joe Biden during his gathering with Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem, in which he expressed that the two-state arrangement “appears to be far away”.

Biden conveyed: “I realize that the objective of the two states appears to be so distant while outrages like limitations on development and travel or the everyday concern of your kids’ security are genuine, and they are prompt.”

He added: “So regardless of whether the ground isn’t ready right now to restart dealings, the United States and my organization won’t abandon attempting to bring the Palestinians and Israelis and the two sides nearer together.”

Haq cautioned that the UN has over and over created clear that the open door would pass by assuming no headway was made with respect to the two-state arrangement.

“We have given this cautioning a few times, and we trust that the world chiefs act as per this,” Haq noted.

The representative emphasized: “We keep coming down on the execution of the two-state arrangement,” focusing on that the UN emissary to the Middle East has told the UN Security Council that the absence of arrangement would make more issues on the ground.

He added that the US is anxious about the possibility that the ongoing norm may not proceed in the long haul.
