United States dismisses Russian allegations of interference in ongoing Indian elections

The United States has rebuffed Russian claims of interference in the ongoing Indian elections. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, during his daily news briefing, firmly stated that the US does not engage in election interference, whether in India or anywhere else globally. He emphasized that electoral decisions are solely the prerogative of the Indian people.

Miller’s remarks came in response to comments made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova in Moscow. Zakharova had criticized a recent Washington Post article alleging the involvement of a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer in a supposed plot to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil last year. Dismissing such accusations as baseless, Zakharova accused the United States of exhibiting a colonial mindset and disrespect towards India as a sovereign nation. She further suggested that these allegations were aimed at destabilizing India’s internal political landscape amidst the ongoing parliamentary elections.

However, Miller declined to comment on the alleged plot, citing its status as an ongoing legal matter. He pointed out that while there may be publicly available indictments containing alleged facts, they remain mere allegations until proven in a court of law.

In essence, the United States firmly refutes any claims of interference in India’s electoral process, asserting its commitment to respecting the sovereignty of nations and allowing their citizens to determine their political future without external influence.
